Connect Discord
Install Harmonise in a Discord server and use an existing voice or stage channel for managed meeting options.
Before you begin
- A signed-in Harmonise account
- A Discord account
- A Discord server you own or can manage
- An existing Discord voice or stage channel
The Discord integration lets Harmonise use a Discord server and one of its existing voice or stage channels for meeting options on an Event. You can use a Discord invitation, a Discord scheduled event, or both.
You do not need to create a Discord bot
You do not need to:
- Open the Discord Developer Portal
- Create a Discord application
- Create a bot
- Generate a bot token
- Copy an application ID
- Create a client secret
- Configure OAuth callbacks
- Configure a Discord public key
Harmonise owns and manages the Harmonise Discord application and bot. Your job is to authorize that existing app/bot in a server you are allowed to manage.
Before you start
You need:
- A Discord account
- A Discord server
- Server-management authority: you must be the server owner or have Discord’s Manage Server permission
- At least one existing voice or stage channel where the meeting should take place
Create the channel in Discord first if you need a new one. Harmonise does not create, rename, or delete Discord channels.
Install Harmonise in a server
Open Settings, select Integrations, and find Meeting providers.
- Find the Discord provider row.
- Select Add to server.
- When Discord opens, sign in if needed.
- Choose the server where you want to install Harmonise.
- Review the permissions requested by Harmonise and select Authorize.
- Complete any Discord verification, then return to Harmonise.
- Wait while Harmonise verifies the installation and the selected server.
If the server does not appear in Discord’s list, check that you are signed in with the correct Discord account and that you are the server owner or have Manage Server permission. A server that you can join or use is not necessarily a server that you can install an app into.
Choose an existing Discord channel
After the server appears in Harmonise, set its default meeting channel.
Find your Discord Channel ID
Discord hides channel IDs until you enable Developer Mode. A channel ID is the long numeric identifier for the channel. It is not the channel name, a server ID, a message ID, an invite link, or a Discord URL.
On desktop:
- In Discord, select the gear beside your username to open User Settings.
- Open Advanced and turn on Developer Mode.
- Return to your server, right-click the existing voice or stage channel, and select Copy Channel ID.
On mobile:
- Tap your avatar in the bottom-right, then the gear in the top-right to open Settings.
- Under App Settings, open Advanced and turn on Developer Mode.
- Return to your server, press and hold the existing voice or stage channel, scroll down, and tap Copy Channel ID.
Discord’s official ID instructions show these steps with current desktop and mobile menus.
Return to Harmonise and paste only the copied numeric value into Channel ID. Select Save channel. Harmonise verifies that the channel belongs to that server, that the bot is installed, and that it can work with the channel. The row then shows Verified default channel ID.
If a new channel is needed, create it in Discord before entering its ID. Do not expect Harmonise to create, rename, or delete it.
Harmonise needs to view the channel and connect to it. Channel-specific permission overwrites can therefore prevent an otherwise valid server installation from being usable.
Create a managed Discord meeting
- Create or edit an Event.
- Make sure the Event has a start and end time. Managed Discord meeting creation does not support all-day Events.
- Select Online meeting and choose Discord.
- Choose the connected Discord server and its verified default channel.
- Enable Create Discord scheduled event, Create temporary invite, or both.
- Save the Event.
A channel by itself is not enough. At least one participant-facing option must be enabled: an invite, a scheduled event, or both. If you choose a scheduled event, Harmonise uses the Event’s title, description, timing, and existing channel to create it. If you choose a temporary invite, Harmonise creates an invitation link for participants.
Discord permissions in plain language
Discord may show several permissions during installation:
- View Channels and Connect let Harmonise work with the selected voice or stage channel.
- Create Events lets Harmonise create a Discord scheduled event.
- Create Instant Invite lets Harmonise create participant invitation links.
- Manage Channels, Mute Members, and Move Members cover broader operations that Discord requires for supported Stage-channel scheduled-event operations.
Harmonise does not use these permissions to arbitrarily rename or delete channels or to manage server members. The integration references the existing channel and manages the meeting resources selected for an Event.
Discord invitation lifetime
Temporary Discord invitations have a limited lifetime. Harmonise will not create an invitation that would expire before the Event begins. If you move an Event significantly later, Harmonise may need to replace the invitation link.
If a Discord option is unavailable
Check the server installation, the verified default channel, and the channel’s Discord permissions. A voice channel and a stage channel can require different permissions, especially when you choose Create Discord scheduled event.
If the bot can no longer view or connect to the channel, update the channel permissions in Discord and then use Save channel again in Harmonise.
If the bot was removed directly from Discord, Harmonise may show the server as unavailable or needing attention. Use Reinstall or Reconnect on the Discord row to authorize Harmonise in that server again.
For normal removal, first select Disconnect in Harmonise. After the installation is disconnected, remove the Harmonise bot from Discord if you no longer want it in the server.
Disconnect Discord
In Meeting providers, find the server installation and select Disconnect. Confirm the action. This removes the installation from Harmonise’s connected-server list. It does not delete the Discord server or its channels.
