Connect a CalDAV calendar

Connect a compatible CalDAV server with its account details and choose which calendars synchronize in Harmonise.

Before you begin

  • A compatible CalDAV server account
  • The server or discovery URL, username, and password for that account

Connect a CalDAV account to bring calendars from a compatible calendar service into Harmonise.

CalDAV is a standard used by many calendar services, but it does not have one universal server address or login format. Your provider or organization gives you the address and account details that Harmonise needs.

Unlike an ICS subscription, a CalDAV connection is an authenticated connection that stays connected to the calendar service. It can support ongoing synchronization and event changes when the provider and calendar permissions allow them.

If all you have is an ICS link, use Subscribe to an ICS calendar instead. Do not paste an .ics download URL, a public sharing URL, a normal calendar web page, or an invite link into the CalDAV connection.

Before you begin

Have the following ready:

  • An account label for this connection in Harmonise
  • The CalDAV server or discovery URL supplied by your provider
  • The username expected by that provider
  • The normal account password or an app-specific/device-specific password if the provider requires one

If you are not sure which details to use, search your provider’s official help for CalDAV settings, server address, or calendar sync. Do not guess the server URL.

Find your CalDAV connection details

The fields in Harmonise correspond to details from your calendar provider.

Account label

This is only the name Harmonise displays for the connection. It does not have to match your provider account name. Use a label that will help you recognize the account later, such as Work Nextcloud, Family calendar, Fastmail, or University calendar.

Server or discovery URL

This is the CalDAV address supplied by your provider. Provider documentation may call it a CalDAV URL, server URL, server address, account URL, or discovery URL. In Harmonise, the field is labelled Server or discovery URL.

Paste the provider-supplied HTTPS address, including any path after the domain. Some services discover the calendar from a root address; others require a longer account or principal address. These addresses are not interchangeable, so do not replace one with a guessed domain or an ICS link.

Username

Enter the username format required by the provider. It is often your full email address, but some services use a separate account username. Use the provider’s expected login name, not a display name.

Password

Enter the password for the CalDAV account. Depending on the provider and your security settings, this is either your normal account password or a separate app-specific/device-specific password. If the provider tells you to use a separate password, do not disable two-factor authentication to make the normal password work.

App-specific and device-specific passwords

An app-specific or device-specific password is a credential generated by the calendar provider for a particular app or device. Harmonise does not create this password. Generate it in the provider’s account settings, then paste the generated value into Harmonise’s Password field exactly as provided. It may look different from your normal password and may only be shown once.

Not every provider uses one. Never send an app-specific password to support, include it in a screenshot, or reuse it as your normal account password.

Common provider examples

These examples show what to enter when the provider’s requirements match the current official settings. Other providers may use different values.

Fastmail

Fastmail requires an app password for third-party calendar clients. Fastmail’s Basic plan does not include third-party clients or CalDAV connections.

  1. In Fastmail, open Settings > Privacy & Security.
  2. Under Connected apps & API tokens, select Manage app passwords and access.
  3. Select New app password, give it a name, and allow calendar access. The default Mail, Contacts & Calendars access also includes calendars.
  4. Select Generate password and copy the generated password.

Enter the following in Harmonise:

  • Account label: A label such as Fastmail.
  • Server or discovery URL: https://caldav.fastmail.com/
  • Username: Your full Fastmail username/email, including the domain.
  • Password: The Fastmail app password with calendar access.

Fastmail requires SSL/TLS for this server. If automatic discovery does not work in another client, Fastmail’s calendar settings can provide a full calendar URL; use the exact address Fastmail provides. See Fastmail’s app password instructions and server names and ports for the current provider details.

Nextcloud

Nextcloud addresses depend on the server installation, so there is no one Nextcloud URL to paste for everyone.

  1. Open the Calendar app in your Nextcloud account.
  2. Open the calendar’s settings and use the copy CalDAV address option. Depending on your Nextcloud version, it may be labelled Copy iOS/macOS CalDAV address or Copy primary CalDAV address.
  3. Paste the entire copied HTTPS address into Harmonise’s Server or discovery URL field, including its path.

Enter the Nextcloud account username that the server expects. It may be a Nextcloud username rather than your display name or email address. If your Nextcloud account uses two-factor authentication, open your personal settings and go to the Security tab. At the bottom of the connected browsers and devices list, create a new device-specific password for this Harmonise connection, then use that generated value in Harmonise’s Password field instead of your normal login password. With 2FA enabled, Nextcloud requires a device-specific password for clients and shows the generated value only when you create it.

See Nextcloud’s CalDAV address instructions and device-specific password instructions for the current provider flow.

Apple Calendar or Yahoo Calendar

For iCloud/Apple or Yahoo, use the dedicated Harmonise guides because those providers have their own account and app-password requirements:

On mobile

  1. Open Settings > Calendars.
  2. Under Calendar integrations, select Connect CalDAV.
  3. Enter the following in the matching fields:
    • Account label
    • Server or discovery URL
    • Username
    • Password
  4. Select Verify CalDAV.
  5. Wait for Harmonise to verify the account and find your calendars.

A Pending status means verification or calendar discovery is still in progress.

After connecting

Once your calendars are discovered, you can:

  • Show or hide calendars
  • Turn Sync on or off
  • Choose an eligible default calendar
  • Map connected calendars to calendars in Harmonise

See Choose calendars from a connected account for more information.

Editing CalDAV events

What you can change depends on the permissions provided by your CalDAV server.

  • Read-only calendars can be viewed in Harmonise but cannot receive event changes.
  • Editable calendars can receive supported event creates, edits, and deletions.

Recurring event options may also depend on the server.

Tasks remain Harmonise Tasks and do not become tasks on the CalDAV server.

Refresh or sync your calendars

Use Refresh calendars when calendars or permissions change on your CalDAV server.

Use Sync now if an existing calendar is connected but its events appear out of date.

Some updates may take longer depending on the calendar server.

Reconnect or replace credentials

If Verify CalDAV fails, check the following:

  • The address is the provider’s CalDAV server or discovery endpoint, not an ICS link, public calendar link, or ordinary web page.
  • The address uses HTTPS and includes the full path the provider supplied.
  • The username is in the provider’s expected format, often the full email address but not always.
  • The password is correct. If two-factor authentication is enabled, confirm whether the provider requires an app-specific or device-specific password.
  • Your provider plan and organization administrator allow third-party CalDAV clients.
  • A self-hosted server has a valid, trusted HTTPS certificate and is reachable from outside your local network.

If the connection shows Error or Revoked, use Replace credentials when available, or disconnect and connect the account again.

Avoid submitting your credentials repeatedly while the connection still shows Pending.

Keep your credentials private

Do not share your CalDAV password in support messages or screenshots.

If you need help, you can safely share the server host, connection status, platform, and visible error message.
